Lyrics of Bob Dylan in context of 20th century poetry and musicKomovec, Martina (Avtor) Kennedy, Victor (Mentor) Bob Dylanpoezijaglasba20. stoletjemoderna poezijapisanje besedilprotestne pesmibaladeljubezenske pesmiThis paper tries to put songs of a contemporary American singer songwriter Bob Dylan into a context of 20th century poetry and music, and to defend a case of him being not just a singer but also a poet. In order to get a clearer picture, the research consists of three major parts. In the first one, Dylan's life and his view upon writing of songs and poems is described leading to the conclusion that both, i.e. song-writing as well as writing of poems fall into the category of poetry, especially, when it comes to Dylan's poetical songs, full of images, allusions, and striking rhyme-making. The next part deals with different eras and different authors that influenced Dylan's writing whatsoever. In the last part, concrete analysis and comparisons of songs are to be found. Dylan's protest songs, ballads and love songs are being compared to songs of other authors. Doing all these analysis has lead to the conclusion that Dylan should be considered as a poet and that his lyrics should be used at teaching English poetry.[M.
