Through the history of the English language and culture there were a lot of factors that contributed to the importation of new words from other languages. In the first part of my paper there is a brief presentation of the history of the English language. The historical and social circumstances as well as characteristics of the English language in different periods have been outlined. In the second part of my paper the two periods in the history of the English language are presented that are the most important for the importation of Italian words in the English language. In the third part the motives for borrowing and the Italian words in the English language are listed. The words have been divided in different categories according to their meaning. Provided are their definitions, origins and an example sentence. The last part of the paper presents the conclusions I have come to while examining when different Italian words came into the English language.</dc:description><dc:publisher>[N.
