| Opis: | Forensic intelligence represents a field where different crime scenes and their perpetrators are linked based on the various traces, forensic evidence, and other data obtained. These findings or links then help investigators carry out their activity more effectively, particularly when it comes to repetitive crime and organised crime. By linking different crimes based on forensic data, forensic intelligence presents a distinct field on its own, but it also serves as an additional source of information for crime intelligence. In this thesis, we tried to answer the question of integrating forensic intelligence into crime intelligence and the role of forensic case data in the latter. In addition, we were also interested in the situation regarding forensic intelligence in Slovenia and Malta. Through a review of the literature, mainly foreign, we have laid out the theoretical foundations of the key concepts. Due to the limited access to the necessary information on the topics under discussion in Slovenia and Malta, interviews were carried out to obtain the necessary information to compare the two countries. We have noted that defining key terms is a challenge, as they vary depending on the authors, languages, and countries. We further concluded that in the above-mentioned two countries, forensic intelligence is used as an additional tool in investigating crime, but to a limited extent. Considering the answers of the interviewees, we believe that the biggest problem in practice is the lack of communication between the relevant units or departments, which limits the use of forensic information from the very beginning of a criminal investigation. We also recommend that the basic concepts in the field of crime intelligence and forensic science should first be properly (and theoretically) defined, especially in Slovenia. |
