Abstract:Svetovno prebivalstvo je leta 2008 znašalo 6,75 milijard ljudi.

Title:Earth’s human carrying capacity
Abstract:In 2008 world population counted 6.75 billion people. According to the most probable demographic projection for the year 2050 from the UN the number of people on Earth will rise up to 9.2 billion. The largest growth will happen in regions, which already today cannot feed all their population. Also with the economic development of the countries their inhabitants start demanding better nutrition. Because of the growing demand for food in the future there arises a question: how many people can the Earth sustain or what is the Earth’s human carrying capacity? Earth’s human carrying capacity is most dependent from agricultural production, which is based on grain production on the arable land and in the smaller extent to herd of livestock on the pastureland and catch of fish in the oceans. The production of the agriculture depends on its development. However today’s so called industrialized agriculture has had also negative influences on the environment, which can result in its smaller productivity and for that in lowered carrying capacity of our planet. I defined the renewable water resources and potential arable land in the world’s regions as the main restrictive factor of agricultural production in the future. With the help of these two factors I defined six scenarios of Earth’s human carrying capacity. With the consideration of various degrees of grain yields, food waste and daily nutrition of the inhabitants I than calculated different scenarios of carrying capacity for each region, which I than summed into Earth’s human carrying capacity.
