Abstract:Večina sodobnih družb temelji na demokratičnem političnem sistemu, čigar izvore najdemo v tradiciji in praksi antične Grčije. Diplomsko delo se osredotoča na razvoj demokracije v Ameriki po nastanku Združenih držav v 18. stoletju. Antična oz. neposredna demokracija in moderna predstavniška demokracija imata popolnoma različna pogleda na posameznika. Antična demokracija vidi posameznika zgolj v kontekstu skupnosti, kateri pripada in njegovi dolžnosti do te skupnosti. Pomemben premik narejen na področju razvoja demokracije v času nastanka Združenih držav je osredotočenost na posameznika in njegove pravice. Temelji ameriške demokracije 18. stoletja ležijo v filozofiji Johna Locka in njegovi razsvetljenski miselnosti, ki je v veliki meri vplivala na politična razmišljanja in pisanja ameriškega politika Thomasa Jeffersona. Jefferson je s svojim demokratsko-republikansko usmerjenim razmišljanjem realiziral politiko liberalizma.

Title:Development of democracy in America: the impact of John Locke on the theory of Thomas Jefferson
Abstract:Most modern societies are based on democratic political system, whose origins are found in the tradition and practice of ancient Greece. Diploma focuses on the development of democracy in America after the creation of the United States in the 18th century. Antique or direct democracy and modern representative democracy have a completely different view of the individual. Antique democracy sees individuals only in the context of the society which he belongs and his obligations to this society. A major shift is made in the development of democracy at the time of the United States is the focus on the individual and his rights. The foundations of American democracy 18th century lie in the philosophy of John Locke and the enlightenment mentality, which is largely influenced by the political thoughts and writings of Thomas Jefferson American policy. Jefferson with his democratic – republican oriented thinking realized policy of liberalism.
