Title:FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS OF HIGH PRESSURE UNDERGROUND NATURAL GAS STORAGE
Abstract:The diploma thesis describes the possibility of modifications to the basic concept of underground storage in the way that it is possible to store operating on the principle of LRC. It describes the basic concept of LRC (lined rock cavern) and the behavior of soil in the construction and operation of underground natural gas storage. The objectives are comparing the feasibility and economy variants and determine the optimum underground storage of natural gas. With mechanical analysis, we found that the behavior of underground caverns is most affect by modulus of elasticity. We evaluated, that minimum required modulus of elasticity is 5 Gpa, in which the structure can be build. In this critical value of modulus of elasticity, we show the effects of thickness of rock cover, operating pressure, diameter of cavern and thickness of concrete lining on the size of the specific deformations. On the basis of the specific deformations calculated with finite element program PLAXIS, we wrote deformation equation. With using the deformation equation, we can easily calculate the deformation of rock and determine whether the warehouse is feasible, or it is necessary to change the parameters. Deformation condition can be achieved with different parameters, so we use economic analysis to determine the underground storage which cause the minimum cost of construction per m3 gas storage.
Keywords:high pressure underground natural gas storage, deformation properties of the rock mass, rock mass classification, cost comparison
