Title:Food born bacterial infections and intoxications
Abstract:Groceries are beside healthy issues and problems connected to environment, the main concern of humans nowadays and it is believed to stay like this in the days to come. In my diploma paper entitled with Food Born Bacterial Infections and Intoxications the main emphasis is put on risk taking factors on bacterial infections with the foodstuffs, major bacterial agents, epidemical characteristic of infections in Slovenia as well as possibilities of preventive actions and supervision. The role of the nurse in preventing the infections and food poisoning is thoroughly presented, for there is a significant lack of knowledge among people in awareness of possible dangers of false dealing with the foodstuffs. With the constant training and education, the nurse is able to contribute immensely to educate the individuals and broader society in recognizing this risk mentioned above. In the chapter Epidemical Data about the Infections and Food Intoxications, we introduced, with the help of the analysis and interpretation from the primary and secondary sources in the charts and graphs, the gathered and processed data about the food intoxication and infections in Slovenia from the period of five years (2003–2007). We wanted to find out which bacteria mainly cause the food intoxication and what their percentage among all registered cases is. We were also wondering if the number of reported cases in terms of food intoxications and infections was varying in the last five years. From the data analysis we came to the conclusion, that the most frequent bacterial causer of intestinal infections is salmonella, and found out that the number of registered cases of such infections in the years 2003–2007 has decreased. Regarding the officially registered infectious intestinal diseases, we reached the statement that the situation in this period has not been significantly altered; only the number of reported bacterial infections of intestines has decreased.
