Title:Kale (Brassica oleracea L. convar. acephala (DC.) Alef)
Abstract:Although kale is a rich and nutritious plant, it is not a wide-spread fodder in everyday practice, due to its technological limitations in production and its harmful substances. The thesis presents a concise overview of available specialized literature on kale in Slovenia and a micro field experiment carried out with random blocks in 4 repetitions on the Rojko farm in Spodnji Duplek (Eastern Slovenia). The experiment determined the effects of seeding time of marrowstem kale (Brassica oleracea L. convar. acephala (DC.) Alef. var. medullosa Thell), Green Angeliter, on the height of the plants, the proportion of leaves in yield and wintering. The plants seeded in March reached the maximum height (210 cm) while the plants seeded in July reached the minimum height (100 cm). Plants seeded in July had the highest proportion of leaves (40,7 %), and those seeded in March had the lowest (20,1 %). Wintering of the plants was unsuccessful in all cases. The most appropriate sowing time is in July and August because the leaves can be used for fodder in autumn.
Keywords:kale, seeding time, height of the plants, portion of leaves
