Abstract:Diplomsko delo Sodišče narodne časti prikaže podrobnejši opis delovanja tega sodišča v Mariboru, ki so ga ustanovili 5. junija 1945 z Zakonom o kaznovanju zločinov in prestopkov zoper slovensko narodno čast.

Title:Court of national honor
Abstract:The Thesis Court of National Honor presents a more detailed description of the activities of this court in Maribor, set up on June 5, 1945 by the Law on Punishment of crimes and offences against the Slovenian national honour. In the first place the Communist Party of Slovenia, as was the practice in other States, wanted to limit the arbitrary punishment of the Germans, members of the home guard (orig. domobranci) and other traitors of the national liberation movement and provide a fair punishment. On the other hand it wanted to use its activities to prepare the ground for the first elections and in particular gain new assets. Therefore, the main task of this court was to sentence individuals and groups for crimes and offences committed during the occupation. The penalties, sentenced by the Court of National Honor, were the loss of national honour, easy or heavy forced labour and the confiscation of property. The loss of national honour meant loss of all civil and political rights, loss of public services, honour and recognition. The longest sentence for forced labour was 10 years. The Court Headquarters were in Ljubljana, but it functioned through senates, which were operating at the headquarters of districts and some counties. The senates also operated in the field and judged »on the spot«, for example in post-war camps. They operated under the procedures of ordinary courts, because they did not have their own regulations on dealing with records. As courts they marked their records with the alpha code (Snč) and a serial number, each senate separately, but also ran registers and directories. The Court of National Honor has in almost three months of its existence in Maribor passed 1368 convictions, but there were much less judicial processes, because it could sentence dozens of people with only one judgement. All of these have been amnestied by the ordinance SNOS on August 24, 1945. They were pardoned of the easy and heavy forced labour punishment, the penalty was limited to the loss of civil rights, but the confiscation penalty remained. All members of the »Kulturbund«, domobranci and other »traitors« were excluded from these pardons.
