Abstract:Predstavljeno delo raziskuje razvoj umetniškega izraza Pieta Mondriana, prikazuje motive in procese abstrahiranja. Raziskuje vplive avantgard in duhovno filozofskih religij, ki so osnova za Mondrianov filozofsko umetniški okvir. V sklopu likovno teoretičnega dela so predstavljene likovne prvine in likovne spremenljivke, ki so osnova Mondrianovega geometrijsko abstraktnega umetniškega izraza: linijo, ploskev, ravnovesje, format in barvo. Prikazan je Mondrianov likovno ustvarjalni in teoretski razvoj v povezavi s prostorom delovanja — ateljeji v Parizu, Londonu in New Yorku.
Keywords:Piet Mondrian, De Stijl, novi plasticizem, teozofija, primarne barve, linija, ploskev, format, ravnovesje.

Title:PIET MONDRIAN: FROM MIMESIS TO NEO-PLASTICISM
Abstract:The present thesis explores the development of Piet Mondrian’s artistic expression, focusing on the motives and processes of abstraction. It examines the influences of avant-garde movements and spiritual philosophical religions which build the foundation of Mondiran’s philosophical and artistic framework. The theoretical part of the thesis presents art elements and visual variables that form the basis of Mondiran’s geometric abstract painting expression: the linea, plane, equilibrium, format, and colour. Next, Mondrian’s visual, creative and theoretical development is depicted and discussed in relation to his working space – the studios in Paris, London, and New York. The organisation of the geometrical structure in works of Jan Vermeer has led various authors to believe there is a connection between the two painters. In this respect, the author presents her hypothesis on a possible influence of Vermeer's work Milkmaid (1658-60) on Mondrian's Composition with Yellow Lines (1933).
Keywords:Piet Mondrian, De Stijl, Neoplasticism, Theosophy, primary colours, linea, plane, format, equilibrium.
