Title:FUNCTION OF PSYCHOLOGY ON THE ROAD AND IN PROVIDING TRAFFIC SAFETY
Abstract:The main focus in this degree dissertation is on studying the importance of the traffic psychology, a younger branch of psychology, which is becoming wider and more and more acknowledged every day. The basis of traffic psychology refers to studies of the road users’ behaviour and psychological processes, which refer to this behaviour as well as to relations between their behaviour and accidents. Therefore the dissertation includes studies of basic physical processes, personality psychology, abilities, personal maturity, expertise, skills and habits of road users. The emphasis is also put on factors for traffic accidents such as tiredness, sense of sight, sense of hearing, speed, use of cell-phones while driving as well as driving under the influence of alcohol, nicotine (cigarettes), drugs and medication. In order to drive safely traffic education is of very high importance, which already begins in the early childhood. It helps us to be able to join the traffic in a safe way and to develop a responsible and respectful relationship towards all road users. On the basis of everyday’s experience, obeying advice of role models (parents, teachers, contemporaries), and understanding of the traffic people form their own points of view, which are very important for their future traffic behaviour.
