Abstract:Diplomsko delo opisuje primarno nočno enurezo pri otrocih starejših od pet let in pomen zdravstvenovzgojnega dela medicinske sestre z njimi in njihovimi starši.

Title:HEALT EDUCATION ROLE OF A NURSE IN TREATMENT OF CHILDREN AFFECTED BY PRIMARY NOCTURNAL ENURESIS
Abstract:Background: This graduate diploma elaborates on the health care provider’s counseling and education of children over five years of age with primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE). It is important, that parents are included in the process too. Counseling and supporting of children and their parents is important part of professional activities of health care providers, e.g. nurses. Although prevalence of PNE spontaneously declines with age, it is crucial to recognize and actively eliminate the symptoms on time, because it is well established that consequences of uncured PNE in some children lead to irreversible damage to their behavior and poor self-esteem. It may represent a great burden to these children and their parent. Methods: This research was based on description of questionnaire fulfilled by 40 parents of children with PNE, who visited outpatients’ department for pediatric nephrology in General Hospital Celje. 22 (55%) of those children were boys and 18 (45%) girls. The aim was to find out what is the role of parental education on seeking for medical help, was the information from the educated nurse clear and thorough, and where do parents look for help for their child with PNE. Results: The results showed that parental education did not influence the timing of early seek for help and that they were satisfied with information from the nurse. It also confirmed that 22 parents, the majority of them (55%), visited their pediatrician for help. Conclusions: We can summarize that general awareness of PNE is increasing and that vast majority of affected children are brought to health care providers before their seventh year. Well educated nurse can provide clear and thorough information about PNE to child’s parents. Satisfied and with knowledge well equipped parents are crucial in successful management of child with PNE.
