V empiričnem delu diplomske naloge so predstavljeni rezultati raziskave.

Title:Stigmatisation in psychiatry
Abstract:In my diploma work I present the development of psychiatry and stigmatization through history, mental disorders, medical team in psychiatry, and mental disorder treatment. The diploma work consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part presents stigmatization in psychiatry and its causation, presence of stigmatization in society, destigmatization, and role of nurses in destigmatization. It also presents how stigmatization affects the quality of life of patients with mental disorder. The empirical part of the diploma work presents a research, research results as also a debate. The research includes random passersby in the cities of Maribor in Slovenia and Göteborg in Sweden. The research showed people in the North (Sweden) and further down South (Slovenia) think and answer similarly to posed questions, there are no significant deviations present in their answers. Thus we have found out how citizens of Maribor as citizens of Göteborg largely agree there is a presence of stigmatization in psychiatry. Both groups of interviewees also see similar reasons for stigmatization in psychiatry. Research results have shown the society is well aware of mental disorders, since only 5% of interviewees have answered that they are not familiar with the term mental disorder. We have also found out that discrimination of people with mental disorders is still very present in the society. Interpretation of collected data gives us reason to believe that destigmatization of patients with mental disorders is possible mainly through conversation about mental disorders in the society. 68% of all interviewees believe that social standard in the society affects the frequency of stigmatization. Stigmatization in psychiatry presents a substantial problem for patients with mental disorder, while the solution has been identified in actions of destigmatization.
