Abstract:Diplomsko delo govori o kurentu v današnjem času, in sicer v šegah, slovstveni folklori in umetnosti. Teoretični del podaja ugotovitve o tem, zakaj in kako so nastale maske in obenem podaja tudi kratek pregled zgodovine maskiranja. S pomočjo intervjujem, zbranih pri terenskem delu, sledi predstavitev kurenta kot pustnega lika v spremljajočih šegah s poudarkom na dveh različnih vrstah kurentov (pernatih in rogatih). Temu sledi predstavitev kurenta v slovstveni folklori, literarni in likovni umetnosti in podaja ugotovitve, ali ima kurent na omenjenih področjih kaj skupnega z bajčnimi (mitološkimi) bitji in hkrati vzpostavlja povezave vse treh področij s kurentom kot pustnim likom. Namen diplomskega dela je tudi prikazati, ali ga (kurenta) posamezni umetniki predstavljajo bodisi kot pustni bodisi kot folklorni lik.

Title:THE KURENT MASK TODAY - IN THE LONG ESTABLISHED CUSTOMS, LITERARY FOLKLORE AND ART
Abstract:This diploma thesis presents kurent in the present; in ways and customs, literary folklore, and art. The theoretical part provides findings on how and why the masks came into the existence, and offers an overview of the history of masking. The following presentation of kurent as a carnival figure is based on interviews, made at field work, with an emphasis on two kinds of kurent―feathered and horned. This is being followed by the presentation of kurent in literary folklore, literary as well in fine arts and the presentation of the findings if the figure of kurent is in the above mentioned areas somehow related to mythological figures and furthermore if it links all three fields with the term kurent in the sense of a carnival figure. The aim of thesis is to show the facts on how particular artist are presenting the kurent – weather as carnival or folklore figure.
