Title:COMPUTER LITERACY FOR ADULTS: THE CASE OF A PROJECT "UNLIMITED POTENTIAL"
Abstract:Computer literacy is imperative for successful use of ICT and is thus integrated into the regular educational process of today. Yet, it was not so in the past. Therefore, such knowledge and skills should be made available to the part of the population which has not acquired them. We draw attention to elderly people. In the past computers were not used in schools as commonly as they are today, or were not used at all. For this reason, Microsoft developed the „Unlimited potential“ project, by which it strives to equip individuals and organizations in less developed areas of Slovenia, and in other countries around the world, with means and knowledge that are necessary for the people to express their potential and create new opportunities to realize their aims. Many Slovenes are computer literate, yet not enough. Insufficiency in computer literacy is particularly noticeable among middle-aged, unemployed people, who lost their jobs in numerous closings of factories and who have never used the computer. In their forties or fifties they experience a hard time finding a new employment due to lack of basic computer literacy. At this point Microsoft helps with the „Unlimited potential“ project. Because of this I respect Microsoft more than ever and wish that there were more similar projects. A large number of people in Slovenia and around the world are in need of such knowledge.
