Title:REAL EXCHANGE RATE AND TERMS OF TRADE IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Abstract:The Czech Republic is a typical country in transition. This means that it’s catching up with the developed countries in all economic aspects as the GDP, inflation rate, competitiveness, liberalization of international trade etc.. We can say that it’s a very successful transition country, because it performs better and better. The inflation rate decreased, with various economic and structural changes the competitiveness of the country was improved, the GDP increased and in general the country became more attractive for foreign investors. All the changes in the Czech Republic are reflected on the exchange rate. Additionally the Czech National Bank had an influence with its monetary policy and its exchange rate system. As all developed countries, the Czech Republic implemented the flexible exchange rate system and the central bank set inflation targeting as its main goal in order to join the European Monetary System and to adopt the Euro. The exchange rates affect the current account balance. The elasticity theory says that the real exchange rate changes have an effect on the change of the relationship between the domestic and foreign prices and consequently on the trade with foreign countries.
Keywords:nominal exchange rate, real exchange rate, effective exchange rate, current account, elasticity approach, balance of payment
