Title:UNDERSTANDING OF PROCESSES WITHIN ECOSYSTEMS AMONG 9th GRADE STUDENTS
Abstract:The ecosystem is one part of the biosphere, which consists of living and unliving components. Those components are tightly and multilateraly connected, so that they can work as a whole unit which is capable of keeping balance. There are numerous ecosystems on our planet, however if we look on the ecosystem in its widests sense, we can say that we all cohabit in an ecosystem which we call Earth. The numerous and different connections between individual parts of the ecosystem are the reason that the change in one component effects all the other components. However, keeping the balance has its limits and if they are crossed, the ecosystem is essentialy changed. We live in the days when we can see environmental and climate changes every day. That is why we have to face the fact that we will all have to take part in preserving our planet. But if we want to help keeping the balance we first have to know and understand the processes which occurs in different ecosystems. That is the reason that in this diploma we studied the understanding of different processes in ecosystems, the knowledge of the ecosystems and if this knowledge is understood in a profesionally way among the 9th graders. We were also studying the fals beliefs which the learners have on this subject and the sources of these fals beliefs. We gathered relavant data with the survey and we found out that the learners know the facts about the processes in the ecosystems, however they do not understand them completely. There is still an enormous gap between what is learned in the schools and the use of this knowledge in every day life.
