Abstract:	Severnoameriški prostotrgovinski sporazum, ki je stopil v veljavo leta 1994 sestavljajo tri države članice-ZDA, Mehika in Kanada. Sporazum povezuje tri zelo različne države, ki so se med seboj povezale, da bi med seboj boljše sodelovale in postale bolj konkurenčne v svetu. NAFTA ureja pravila trgovanja med članicami in v praksi pomeni postopno odstranjevanje vseh možnih ovir v trgovanju med članicami. Sporazum ima na vse tri članice različne učinke, vsem je skupno, da jim je prinesel tako koristi kot tudi negativne posledice. Veliko je kritik na račun NAFTE, nekaj izmed njih je upravičenih, nekaj pa samo izraz političnih in drugih prepričanj. V nečem se pa tako kritiki, kot tisti, ki so z NAFTO sorazmerno zadovoljni, strinjajo in to je, da NAFTA ni izpolnila vseh pričakovanj, glede dejanskih učinkov na gospodarstva vseh treh članic. Pomembna dosežka integracije sta sporazuma o sodelovanju na področju dela in pa varstva okolja. Za prihodnost je načrtovana širitev integracije, s čimer pa se veliko ljudi ne strinja. Vse tri države članice so med seboj zelo povezane, posebej ZDA so zelo pomembna trgovinska partnerica preostalih dveh članic. NAFTA in EU med seboj nimata podpisanega nobenega sporazuma na tej ravni, je pa zato sodelovanje med državami članicami NAFTE in EU veliko boljše in bolj poglobljeno, predvsem EU in ZDA sta zelo veliki partnerici pa tudi tekmici, saj njuni gospodarstvi skupaj predstavljata skoraj polovico svetovne ekonomije. Tudi za Slovenijo so članice NAFTE zelo pomembne, predvsem ZDA; blagovna menjava med njima je veliko večja kot pa trgovanje Slovenije z Mehiko ali Kanado. Tako da če na kratko povzamemo-NAFTA je sporazum in integracija, ki je na začetku obetala veliko več, kot pa je kasneje dejansko izpolnila, ima tako prednosti kot slabosti, kar pa ima tako ali tako vsaka stvar v življenju, odvisno iz katerega zornega kota gledamo in odvisno od tega, kaj želimo. Tako da lahko rečemo, da je še vedno prostor in čas za izboljšave obstoječe integracije, vendar le, če bo za to interes na vseh straneh.

Title:	REGIONAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION NAFTA AND ITS ECONOMIC RELATIONS WITH THE EU
Abstract:	In 1994 The North American Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, United States of America and Canada entered into force. The agreement connects three different countries, which are integrated with each other to improve cooperation between them and to become more competitive in the global economy. NAFTA sets the rules of trade among member states and means the gradual elimination of majority of trade barriers between NAFTA countries. The agreement had and has different effects on the member countries and they are both-positive and negative. There exists a lot of criticism of NAFTA, some of them are realistic and true, but some of them are just unjustified and just an expression of political or other beliefs. All the people-critics and the one who are satisfied with the agreement-agree on one particular point-NAFTA hasn’t fulfilled all the expectations, it is said that the gains of each NAFTA country are too small. Very important accomplishments of the agreement are North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation and The North American Agreement on Labour Cooperation. A plan for the future includes expanding the integration, but a lot of people disagree with this. All three countries are very integrated with each other; especially the US is a very important trade partner of Canada and Mexico. NAFTA and EU haven’t signed any agreements yet, but cooperation among NAFTA and EU countries is very good and productive, especially EU and USA are very good trade partners but also competitors, because their economies together represent almost half of the entire world economy. The member states of NAFTA are also very important for Slovenia, especially the US; commercial trade between Slovenia and USA is much bigger that trade between Slovenia and the other two member countries. To summarise we can say NAFTA is an agreement and integration, which was very promising, but it disappointed. So it has both-pros and cons, which is common to all things in life, depending from which angle of view we are looking at and what we really want. To conclude, we can say that there is still room and time for improvements of the existing agreement, but only if there exist interest on both sides.
