Ker si zakonodaja prizadeva omogočati strokovno obravnavo pacienta, me je zanimalo, katere novosti in kakšne spremembe, glede sprejema pacienta z duševno motnjo prinaša Zakon o duševnem zdravju.

Title:Acception of the mental health disordered patient on the psychistric ward
Abstract:In the diploma paper I have discussed the admission of a patient with mental disorder to the department of psychiatry and the role of the patient’s medical nurse. The main goal of the diploma paper was to present the most common mental diseases, which cause the admission of a patient to the department, the team treatment of the patient and the communication part between the patient and the medical nurse during the whole process of admission. The main ethical and legal question is the hospitalization and medical treatment of the patient against his own free will and the physical interference in his personal space. The patient, who has been admitted against his will, has certain rights and duties that need to be precisely followed. Because of that, I have also discussed the patient’s rights; ethical dilemmas and the definition of the Mental Health Act (Uradni list RS št. 77/2008), which refers to the whole process of admission. I wanted to find out, how important the communication part between the medical nurse and the patient is, and which the activities at the admission of a patient with a mental disorder in health care are. Since the law strives to make the professional treatment of a patient possible, I was interested to find out which innovations and changes regarding to the admission of patients with mental disorder the Mental Health Act brings. In my research I used the descriptive method of work and the methods of analysis and synthesis of the national and foreign literature. I came to the conclusion that communication is of great importance in psychiatric health care, since it is one of basic tools of treating a patient with mental disorder. Working with such patients requires constant communication skills, which are part of the every day work of a medical nurse and are at the same time, also therapeutic for the patient. The purpose of constant communication is the contentment of the patients needs; through that we can recognize his extraordinary, consider it and respond to it. The most important and essential change that the Mental Health Act brings, is the advocacy and the right to a legal representative, that appears where he is the most needed; during critical situations and at forced hospitalization of a patient. The representatives work exclusive in the favor and for the protection of the rights, privileges and interests of people who are being treated.
