Abstract:V mojem diplomskem delu sem se ukvarjala predvsem z analizo in primerjavo predstavitve gotskih in nadnaravnih elementov in z načinom uprizoritve le-teh v obeh različicah zgodbe.

Title:GOTHIC AND SUPERNATURAL ELEMENTS IN STEPHEN KING`S THE SHINING: COMPARISON OF BOOK AND MOVIE ADAPTATION
Abstract:In my diploma, I was mostly engaged in an analysis and comparison of gothic and supernatural elements and its interpretation in both versions of this story. My diploma takes us through the story of the main characters, who are taken into the gothic isolation of the sinister Overlook Hotel, because of the family`s father`s, Jack Torrance`s, new job. There they meet, not only dangerous ghosts who hide in the hotel, but also their personal demons and fears. This soon turns out to be fatal for the whole family, because Jack Torrance`s mind becomes blurred, as a result of his own personal frustrations. Because he also becomes obsessed with the hotel, he forgets about everything he once loved, and decides to kill his son and wife. Because of Danny Torrance`s special gift, called 'the shining', which is deeply desired by the hotel itself, he has to fight especially hard for his life. This story, pervaded with darkness, gothic themes, symbols and many other elements of gothic genre, ends happily for Danny and Wendy, and fatal for Jack, who dies because of his wish to close to the hotel and his ghosts. Because Stanley Kubrick, made a movie adaptation of King`s novel The Shining, I was interested also in his point of view and interpretation of gothic and supernatural elements. After making the analysis, I have to affirm many ambiguities between his version and King`s.
