Abstract:	V pričujočem delu je v treh segmentih predstavljena stoletna zgodovina reformacije in protireformacije v mestu Maribor in njegovi bližnji podeželski okolici, od prve omembe tedaj nove vere ob vizitaciji leta 1528 do smrti zadnje znane evangeličanske osebe v mestu, leta 1637. Uvodoma je predstavljeno obdobje uveljavljanja nove veroizpovedi do sredine 16. stoletja ter njene prevlade med vodilnimi sloji mesta dve desetletji kasneje. Osrednji segment predstavlja obdobje vrhunca tukajšnje evangeličanske skupnosti med letoma 1587 in 1600, ko je ta imela lasten cerkveno-šolski kompleks, s pokopališčem, molilnico in šolo, stoječim pri gradu Betnava, južno od Maribora. Naposled je v tretjem segmentu predstavljeno obdobje protireformacije, ki je prineslo fizično uničenje betnavskega kompleksa ter postopen propad skupnosti, kot tudi izginotje evangeličanov iz mesta in njegove bližnje okolice pred sredino 17. stoletja. Delo temelji zlasti na neobjavljenih virih, katerih glavnino predstavlja kar obširna korespondenca med nadzorništvom betnavske cerkve, mariborskimi evangeličani, deželo Štajersko ter deželnim knezom in njegovimi oblastmi. Ob predstavitvi in analizi zgodovinskega razvoja je naloga pričujočega dela tudi odprava nekaterih zmot, ki so, zlasti v slovenskem zgodovinopisju, doslej veljale kot dejstva.

Title:	The protestant Maribor: the city and its vicinity in the times of reformation and counterreformation in the 16th and in the beginning of the 17th century, with the emphasis on the heyday and suppression of the local protestant community between the years
Abstract:	The following work presents, in three sections, the centennial history of Reformation and Counter-Reformation in the town of Maribor and its nearby rural area, from the first mention of the then new religion during the visitation of 1528 until the death of the last known protestant person in town in 1637. Initially, the period of the establishment of the new religion until the mid 16th century and its primacy among the town's leading social classes two decades later is presented. The central section presents the heyday period of the local protestant community, between the years 1587 and 1600, during which the community had its own church-and-school complex, with a cemetary, a house of worship and a school standing at the Betnava castle south of Maribor. Finally, the third section presents the period of Counter-Reformation that brought forth the physical destruction of the Betnava complex and the gradual demise of the community as well as the disappearance of protestants from both the town and its nearby area before the mid 17th century. The work is foremost based on unpublished historical source materials, the main part of them being the quite large correspondence between the Betnava church inspectorate, Maribor protestants, the land of Styria, and the land sovereign and his authorities. Next to the presentation and analysis of the historical development, doing away with some misunderstandings that have especially in Slovene historiography so far been taken for facts, is as well the objective of this work.
