Metodologija raziskovanja. Uporabljena je bila kvantitativna metodologija. Kot instrument za zbiranje podatkov je bil uporabljen anketni vprašalnik zaprtega tipa, ki smo ga povzeli po raziskavi (Association of short sleep duration with weight gain and obesity at 1-year follow-up: a large-scale prospective study) in ga prilagodili potrebam raziskave. Za analizo dobljenih podatkov smo uporabili osnovne deskriptivne statistike. Podatke smo statistično obdelali s programskim orodjem SPSS PASW 18. Rezultati. Sklep. Raziskali smo najpogostejše razloge za povečanje epidemije debelosti: okolje, opustitev kajenja, pomanjkanje spanja, poznavanje energijskih potreb organizma, premajhna športna aktivnost in slaba motivacija posameznika. Iz pregleda literature smo ugotovili značilno povezavo med indeksom telesne mase (ITM) in na drugi strani med opustitvijo kajenja, pomanjkanju spanja, povečanju zdravstvenih težav, pomanjkanju poznavanja energijskih potreb organizma, pomanjkanju pitja tekočine, premajhna športna aktivnost in motivacija posameznika.

Title:New reasons for the obesity epidemic
Abstract:Obesity today threatens more than over half of adults and even more children and adolescents. In the last twenty years the amount of people with problems with excessive body mass has drastically increased. Obesity is one of the many factors of risk of the origin of numerous diseases but it is also reducing the quality of life. In this diploma thesis we describe the interdisciplinary accession by dealing with obesity and lowering of the body mass using the results from the field of health care, physiology, kinesiology, dietetics and psychology, which can be very helpful at solving obesity. With this research we tend to discover the linkage between the quantity of sleep and obesity and also the frequency and quality of sport activity concerning obesity. Research methodology. The quantitive methodology was used. A questionnaire of the closed type was used as the instrument for collecting data, which was summarized after the research (Association of short sleep duration with weight gain and obesity at 1-year follow-up: a large-scale prospective study) was adjusted for our needs. For the analysis of the gained data the basic descriptive statistics were used. The collected data was statistically processed with the SPSS PASW software. Results. We found that omission of smoking can influence the weight gain, that the lack of sleep is connected to the body mass, so that people, who tend to sleep less than seven hours per day, could be inclined to a larger Body Mass Index (BMI) than those who sleep longer. With the enlargement of the BMI health problems of an individual are increased, among them there are cardiovascular diseases in the first place. The knowledge of energy needs of the organism decreases with the growth of the BMI. The majority of people do not drink enough fluids per day. With the growth of the BMI also the sport activity is decreased. It was shown that the motivation for sport activities is decreasing with the growth of the BMI. Conclusion. We researched the most frequent reasons responsible for increasing the epidemics of obesity: environment, omission of smoking, lack of sleep, knowledge about the energy needs of the organism, not enough sport activity and bad motivation of an individual. From the literature review, we found significant association between the Body Mass Index (BMI) and on the other hand the relation between the omission of smoking, lack of sleep, increasing of health issues, the lack of knowledge about the energy needs of the organism, lack of drinking fluids, lack of sport activity and motivation of an individual, was shown.
