Abstract:Strupene snovi, katerih zaužitje povzroči obolelost ali celo smrt, poznajo ljudje že od pradavnine. Zato mora imeti medicinsko osebje v urgentnih ekipah in v zdravstvenih zavodih potrebno znanje, da preko simptomov ugotovi vrsto zastrupitve in izvede učinkovito zdravljenje.

Title:Nursing patients with acute and chronic intocsication
Abstract:People have known toxic substances, whose ingestion causes suffering or even death, since the ancient times. First they came across toxic substances found in nature, but with the development of technology, a lot of synthesized industrial and other substances that cause poisoning, have been produced. Alongside industrial compounds, there are many kinds of illegal drugs, whose use is spreading and causing further risk of contamination. There are many toxic substances found all around us, which is why the phenomenon of poisoning is a very serious issue in health institutions. Poisonings can roughly be divided in two groups; acute and chronic. Acute poisonings are dangerous, because symptoms occur very quickly and the risk of fatal incident is greater than in chronic poisonings. Cases of patients with poisoning should be assessed quickly, because the patient may be in danger. Therefore, the medical staff and emergency teams in health care institutions must have the necessary skills to determine the nature of the poisoning through the symptoms and implement effective treatment. In this context, the role of a nurse is particularly important, because the latter is an important link in the emergency teams and hospitals.
