Abstract:Dvoživke (Amphibia) veljajo za ogroženo živalsko skupino vretenčarjev. Z urbanizacijo in izgradnjo infrastrukture prihaja do fragmentacije naravnih prebivališč dvoživk. Rezultati moje raziskave so pokazali, da so v okolici Račevskega jezera prisotne tri vrste dvoživk: sekulja (Rana temporaria), navadna krastača (Bufo bufo) in navadni pupek (Triturus vulgaris).

Title:Amphibian black spot on Račeva – Smrečje road section near Žiri
Abstract:Amphibians (Amphibia) are an endangered class of vertebrate animals. Among other reasons, human activity in nature is responsible for their disappearances. The urbanisation and infrastructure construction are fragmenting their natural habitats. In spite of the increased awareness of amphibians' importance in recent years, people still fill up the "useless" pools, swamps etc. Another reason which is responsible for the endangerment of amphibians is related to the decimation of their population by traffic. Nowadays, the road network is continuously spreading and due to the heavier traffic, many more amphibians are being run over. The aim of the diploma paper is to list the species and to establish an exact number of amphibians (alive and perished) which crossed the 500 meters long road section Račeva - Smrečje near the Lake Račeva. According to the results of the research, three different species of amphibians are present in the area around the Lake Račeva: Common Frog (Rana temporaria), Common Toad (Bufo bufo) and Smooth Newt (Triturus vulgaris). I have established that traffic is responsible for the demise of a considerable portion of amphibians. Of the total 6956 amphibians, 1245 were run over which represents 18% of sexually mature animals. Based on these results, I can label the observed road section as a “black spot” for amphibians.
