Abstract:Konj izžareva moč, ponos, spoštovanje, sprejema nas take, kot smo.

Title:INFLUENCE OF EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY ON CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
Abstract:Horses emanate power, pride and respect, they accept us the way we are. They are ready to cooperate with and grow fond of anyone. Thus the equine assisted therapies were developed where the children with developmental disabilities learn to cooperate with a horse, connect with him and trust him, moreover, they develop faster and better with the help of the therapies. For these reasons I decided to study the equine assisted therapies (EAT). Once a week for three months I was meeting a girl with cerebral palsy and a boy with Down's syndrome. I created my own criteria for the evaluation of their improvements of motor and psychosocial skills. I distributed questionnaires to their parents, therapist and a horse leader to obtain data on the previous therapies and their opinion of EAT. My study revealed positive effects in all areas. Through constant exercises that we performed both children improved their balance, they became more agile and developed hand-eye coordination. Eventually it was easier for them to mount and dismount a horse, each time they improved their performance of the exercises. Their spine became less slouching and their trust in horses was spread to other people, including me, they even became more communicative. I concluded that people are satisfied with EAT, they even think that the therapies should be carried out several times a week. They all agree that therapies have positive effects on children and that positive effects are seen in many areas.
Keywords:horse, EAT – equine assisted therapies, hippo therapy, riding as special pedagogical activity, recreational riding, development of motor and psychosocial skills, children with developmental disabilities.
