Porabo smo ugotavljali z biokemijskimi analizami količin lipidov (eterska ekstrakcija) in glikogena (antronska reakcija) ter s histološkimi analizami založnih tkiv v maščobnem telesu (merjenje velikosti lipidnih kapelj in deleža lipidov v maščobnem telesu) eno leto vsak neparni mesec.

Title:Annual Dynamics of Reserve Substances in the Beetle Laemostenus (Antisphodrus)
Abstract:Laemostenus schreibersii is a troglophile carabid beetle abundant in Slovenian caves. The species is partially adapted to living in the subterranean environment. It lives in the entrance as well as deep cave sections. It preferrs mesocavernicolous habitats shallow under the surface. During the winter it moves into fissures of the shallow superficial subterranean environment to overwinter there. During overwintering it does not feed, thus exploiting its reserve substances. The goal of our investigation was to explain the dynamics of the reserve substance expoitation in L. schreibersii during the year. For this purpose we carried out biochemical analyses of lipid (diaethyl eter extraction) and glycogen (anthron reaction) contents, and histological analyses of the reserve substances in the fat body (measuring the size of the lipid droplets in the fat body) each odd month during one year. We found out that both sexes use lipids during the overwintering. In males, the lipid metabolism is constant during the year, while it changes substantially in females. In males, the size of the lipid droplets is relatively constant during the year, while in females it substantially increases in March because of the oogenesis, and the lipid ration within the fat body is the largest as well. Than gradually the ratio diminishes till June when achieving the lowest value. We assume that the high level of glycogen in winter refers to the antifreeze production for protection against low environmental temperatures. In general, during overwintering, the lipid metabolism is of greater importance in L. schreibersii. The energy dynamics of L. schreibersii is complex and related to its overall annual activity.
