Namen raziskave je preveriti, koliko so pacienti in medicinske sestre seznanjeni z motnjami v zadrževanju urina in koliko poznajo možnosti zdravljenja urinske inkontinence. Podatke smo zbirali z dvema anketnima vprašalnikoma. Rezultati. Ozaveščenost strokovne in laične javnosti o zdravljenju urinske inkontinence je slaba. Sklep.

Title:PROFESSIONAL AND LAYMANS PUBLIC AWARENESS REGARDING VOIDING DYSFUNCTION PROBLEMS
Abstract:Background: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a serious health problem which may have a profound impact on quality of life. Involuntary leakage of urine during everyday physical activity, coughing or even sexual intercourse is a health, psychological and economic burden for the affected individual and the health care system in general. Almost every third woman and every twentieth man over the age of 60 is affected by urinary incontinence. Its prevalence increases with age. UI influences the life of partners of patients as well. It represents also the reason for social isolation, because this condition is accompanied by the feeling of shame, embarrassment and low self esteem. In our research we have tried to determine whether nurses and patients are informed about problems of urinary incontinence and possibilities for its treatment. Methodology: In our research we have analyzed data from two questionnaires which have been answered by 59 medical technicians and 300 patients. We have applied the methods of descriptive statistical analysis, Spearman rank correlation, linear regression and other parametrical statistical methods. SPSS version 17 was used as the main statistical software. Results: As we have expected, both patients and nurses have been aware and well informed about possibilities for treatment of urinary incontinence. Conclusion: Despite the fact that nurses are quite well informed about treatment options for urinary incontinence, we think their further education on the subject is necessary because they are invaluable in health promotion.
