Abstract:	Cilj diplomske naloge z naslovom Ustroj in taktika rimske vojske je predstavitev organizacije vojske, ki je z disciplino in vojaško taktiko premagovala svoje nasprotnike v večini spopadov ter tako omogočala širjenje rimskega imperija preko vseh slutenih razsežnosti. Glede na dolžino meja in število prebivalcev je rimska vojska bila relativno maloštevilna, kar pa je nadomeščala s svojo profesionalizacijo. Skozi stoletja se je predznak rimske vojske spreminjal – od mestne vojske, ki se ni razlikovala od drugih vojska tedanjega časa (do drugega stoletja pred našim štetjem), skozi proces profesionalizacije (Marijeve reforme), ki je vodil v povečano število in obseg osvajalskih pohodov, do končne barbarizacije vojske, ki se je v zadnjih stoletjih obstoja rimskega imperija v glavnem osredotočala na obrambo meja pred vpadi tujih ljudstev. Navkljub propadu rimske države in njene vojske se je njena zapuščina ohranila vse do današnjih dni. Rimska vojaška taktika je ohranila svojo tradicijo v zametkih vojska v Evropi v srednjem in novem veku, bila je vir proučevanja številnih vojaških strategov, kar tudi pojasnjuje današnje politične in gospodarske povezave med evropskimi državami.

Title:	The Structure and the Battle Tactics of the Roman Army
Abstract:	The aim of the thesis entitled “The Structure and the Battle Tactics of the Roman Army” is the presentation of the organization of the army, which managed to defeat the majority of its opponents with its discipline and battle tactics. That enabled the Roman Empire to spread over the vast section of the known world of that time. According to the length of border and the number of population the Roman army did not have a high number of soldiers, but that was compensated with the professionalization of the army. Throughout the centuries the nature of the Roman army changed dramatically – it started as the local town army which did not differ itself from the armies of the surrounding area (until the second century BC) and it grew through the process of professionalization (the army reforms of Marius) which lead to the higher number and the scale of conquests. Finally the army had undergone the process of barbarization what meant that the army focused itself on guarding the borders due to attacks of the foreign peoples. Although the Roman Empire and its army collapsed its legacy lives to this day. Roman battle tactics kept its tradition in the armies of the Middle and the Modern age. It was and still is the source of knowledge for numerous strategists what explains political and economical relations among European countries in modern times.
