Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Danes postaja pojem kakovosti življenja vse bolj pomemben.

Title:THE IMPACT OF CHRONIC INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS
Abstract:Theoretical basis: The concept of quality of life is getting more and more important. One of the most important factors, that defines the quality of life, is health of the individual that today also represents a social norm. Each disease, especially the chronic one, has a typical course and consequences that introduce certain changes to the patient's life. Patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease don't face just with a weakened body and physical pain, but also with psychical and social consequences of the disease and many uncertainities and fears that appear during the treatment. Nursing care has an important role in assuring the quality of patient's life. It is performed by a nurse that informs the patient, provides advice to the patient and motivates the patient to adapt the lifestyle in order to achieve the quality of life despite the chronic disease. Methodology and research: We used the descriptive method of approach. For the purpose of data collection we prepared an anonymous questionnaire. We distributed it to the 30 members of Chronic inflammatory bowel disease society, section of the Štajerska region. The collected data were processed by computers and illustrated with graphs. Results: The majority of patients believe that the chronic inflammatory bowel disease has changed the quality of their lives. The biggest problem of patients in everyday life is the feeling of being weak, tired and exhausted. Patients are trying to follow the principles of healthy life, but not all of them. Discussion: Chronic inflammatory bowel disease affects the quality of life of patients. It does not affect just the body but also the feelings, emotions and social relations of the patients. Therefore it is specially important, that the patients reconcile with the disease as soon as possible, that they learn how to leave with it and that they try to follow the principles of healthy life.
