Title:PEOPLE'S BELIEFS AND RITES AT THREE MILESTONES IN LIFE
Abstract:When speaking of people's beliefs, we discuss the notions related to the belief in the supernatural world and those that lead people in all areas of life; spiritual, social and economic. Human life, the so called path from cradle to the grave, is in every nation accompanied with various rites and beliefs. For the most part, the rites of common people are connected with religious holidays; however, there are various origins of such beliefs. People are social beings; therefore they live in society and have a strong need to belong to it. This is why people want to get together and are trying to behave like others around them. It all begins with the birth, because according to people’s beliefs luck in life can depend merely on the date of birth and there are also many dos and don'ts that lead a woman through the time of pregnancy. Accordingly, the next important milestone in life is marriage. This is a ceremony in which the young man is getting married and the young woman surrenders herself. This milestone in life, as we like to say, was also accompanied with many rites and beliefs. Some of them are still present, especially in rural areas. The only sure thing in life is death. That is what they say. Many of the beliefs in premortal signs are preserved from the old times. The rites when people are parting from the dead and at the burial itself have not changed much. Rites and customs at three milestones in life are more preserved than beliefs, because today people rarely know the true origins of superstitions.
