Title:CONSTRUCTION OF IDENTITY IN VIRTUAL SPACE
Abstract:The Web communication tools that were once available to users were predominantly ensured through the construction of a Web identity and networking with other users on the basis of text. With the transition to Web 2.0 technologies, this method gave way to new possibilities for self-presentation and networking. Today, Web applications enable its users to create a “digital body” to handle potential strangers. This body is limited to models which are specified in advance and created by the structures of these applications. The diploma thesis researches the area of identity development in a transmitted communications environment to establish what limitations the user is confronted with. In the research portion, through a survey and analysis of user profiles on Facebook, we attempted to establish to what degree identities in a Web environment differed from daily life profiles and how much creativity is allowed to users with regard to their construction.
