Title:MINOR FILM, BIG WORLD (MODERN SLOVENIAN ART CINEMA ASSOCIATION AND ART FILM)
Abstract:The term »minor cinema« represents European cinema, which is facing numerous obstacles in a today’s global and highly capital-oriented world. Europe seems to house a too small market to develop commercial film industry on its own. Therefore, its cinema is developing in the direction of the art film and art cinemas. An ever-growing commercial American cinema penetrating our space has resulted (1) in cases of shutting down domestic cinemas, (2) decreased interest in domestic film among the cinemagoers and lower turnout at the cinemas. This consequently means a major loss for the European culture. However, domestic cinemas have found the light at the end of the dark tunnel via transformation into art cinemas that screen art films. These art cinemas nevertheless remain minor cinemas. Thus, they have aligned with one another, which enables them to more easily overcome many a challenge in the field of modern cinematography. Art cinema networks, have been established. They are negotiators with the country's government in efforts to set a fertile platform to prosper, further develop and enhance the status of domestic film.
