Title:HANDWRITING WITH PUPILS OF THE 4th AND 5th GRADE
Abstract:The handwriting has always attracted people, as it awoke certain mystical feelings and at the same time pople saw deeper meaning in it. With the development of modern technology the handwriting has become a rarity. And because of those changes we decided to explore the development of handwriting with our pupils who (don't) develop their own individual handwriting in this period of modern media. We included 70 pupils and 2 teachers from 2 elementary schools in Maribor into our survey. We were interested in how important the handwriting is to the pupils, who they choose to imitate, who they think has the most beautiful hadwriting in their family and how they write. We tried to answer these questions in the empirical part of our survey. In the theoretical paart of our survey we focused on the development of printing readiness, which is very important already with pre-school children. We took a closer look at the literacy training in the first three years of elementary scholing and were interested in what is the focus of curriculum in the following six years of elementary schooling. We checked the aesthetic demands in handwriting and what kind of problems children face while learning how to write. We also looked into same basics of graphology and the most common criteria graphologists use to understand the handwriting.
