Abstract:Diplomsko delo Čarobnost zastekljenih pejsažev: sociološka analiza se ukvarja s fenomenom sodobnih nakupovalnih središč oziroma z analizo nakupovalnega središča Europark.
Keywords:nakupovalno središče, potrošnja kot kulturna in socialna praksa, sociabilnost, estetizacija prostorov potrošnje, izkustvo užitka

Title:The magic of the glazed sceneries: a sociological analysis
Abstract:The diploma thesis Čarobnost zastekljenih pejsažev: sociološka analiza (The Magic of the Glazed Sceneries: A Sociological Analysis) deals with the phenomenon of contemporary shopping centres or namely the analysis of the Europark Shopping Centre. The aim of the diploma thesis is to clarify what it is that draws people to shopping centres (more precisely to the Europark Shopping Centre) and establish what the charm of these glazed sceneries is. The answer to this question required the treatment of theoretical bases of consumption and consumer societies, deliberation of various views of shopping centres and an analysis of the concrete case – the Europark Shopping Centre. The thesis proves that the modern consumer is not merely drawn to shopping centres to purchase existing goods or products, but also to enjoy, be entertained, relax, socialise and be included in contemporary (consumer) society. This desire is satisfied by shopping centres which are, at the same time, locations for fun, highly aesthetic spaces of consumption, places to socialise, hyper-realistic, etc. The urge to visit a shopping centre thus cannot be understood without understanding the wide spectre of social change connected to society’s transformation into a post-modern society: from the salient role of work to the primary role of markets and consumption, from traditional to contemporary hedonism, from primate needs and desire to a primate style and aestheticization of consumption, from consumption which satisfies the individual's material needs to consumption which addresses the individual's fantasies.
Keywords:shopping centres, consumption as a cultural and social practice, sociability, aestheticization of consumption spaces, enjoyment experience
