Abstract:IZVLEČEK Z diplomsko nalogo smo se dotaknili sobivanja treh med seboj nerazdružljivo prepletenih elementov: ptic, narave in človeka Skadarskega jezera.

Title:THE BIRDS OF LAKE SKADAR, AN APPORTUNITY FOR AREAS OF NATURA 2000
Abstract:ABSTRACT In this paper we focused on coexistence of three inseparable intertwined elements at the Lake Skadar: birds, nature and human. Some of the birds have over the millenniums completely adjusted to human presence and transformed landscape. On the peat islands we can find one of the world's last nesting place of the pelican (Dalmatian pelican or Pelecanus crispus), which is the biggest and most famous bird of the lake. The people of Montenegro have labelled it as a mark of the National park Lake Skadar. We also observed the colonization of the various birds in the beautiful landscape, which beings they encounter there and the influence of human changes on the environment. Montenegro is a small country with a unique Lake Skadar, the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula and a real bird paradise. More than 300 species of birds have been observed there and many of them have a status of endangered species, 239 of them are permanently protected. Due to these reasons we decided to look closely to the birds of Lake Skadar in this paper. We examined the influence of pollution to the ecosystem, the establishment of the Natura 2000, we introduced the purpose of the Centre for protection and research of birds of Montenegro, and we explored the protection of birds, their habitats and the favna. Our findings show that the number of nests and diversity of birds are declining. This could be due to the frequently developing industry and the pollution, unregulated tourism, agriculture, hunting and loose legislation. Therefore, the involvement of Montenegro in the Natura 2000 network is favoured and welcomed.
