Primerjali smo vsebnosti naslednjih hranilnih snovi: surove beljakovine, surove maščobe, linolna kislina, α-linolenska kislina, kalcij, fosfor, vitamin A, vitamin D3. Preverili smo, koliko teoretično zadostijo recepture dejanskim potrebam po hranilnih snoveh mladičev težkih 5,5 kg, 15 kg težkih odraslih psov in 22 kg težkih psic v času brejosti. Primanjkljaji so bili mnogo manjši.

Title:Nutritional adequacy of commercially produced dry dog food on the Slovenian market
Abstract:The goal of the research was to establish if and to what extent the manufacturers of dry dog food follow the recommended nutritional food value at the production of standard dog formulas. We have therefore compared five commercial manufacturers of dry dog food present on the Slovenian market (Pedigree, Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Purina Pro Plan, Arden Grange). In order to determine the surplus or the deficit of individual nutritional values according to standard nutrient requirements of dogs and cats (Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats, 2006), we have compared the nutrient content: crude proteins, crude fats, linoleic acid, α-linolenic acid, calcium, phosphorous, vitamin A and vitamin D3. We theoretically examined to what extent the formulas satisfy the actual nutrient requirements of 5.5 kg heavy puppies, of 15 kg heavy adult dogs and of 22 kg heavy pregnant bitches. According to the analysed nutrient content, none of the examined formulas precisely and fully cover the nutrient requirements. Altogether, the research has revealed more potential surpluses than deficits. The analysis of nutrient content in puppy food revealed the largest surplus of vitamin A (+ 255 %), vitamin D (+ 249 %) and calcium (+ 254 %), while adult dog food had the largest surplus of crude fats (+ 274 %), crude proteins (+ 224 %) and calcium (+ 254 %). The analysis of food for pregnant bitches also revealed the largest surplus of vitamin A (+ 223 %) and vitamin D (+ 139 %). However, the determined deficits of nutrients were much smaller. Puppy food analysis revealed a deficit of calcium (max. - 8.8 %) and phosphorous (max. - 28.6 %), while the analysis of adult dog food only revealed a deficit in one nutrient vitamin D (- 4,5 %). The food for pregnant bitches revealed the largest deficit of linoleic acid (- 75 %).
