Title:ANXIETY AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE COMPETITOR`S RESULT
Abstract:The aim of the thesis was to establish if performing relaxation techniques reduces a competitor's anxiety. Our measurement comprised a group of 37 participants from various Slovene clubs (Basketball Club Pivovarna Laško, Handball Club Dol TKI Hrastnik, Cycling Club Celje). By means of two questionnaires on anxiety Stai X1 and Stai X2, together with the general (demographic) questionnaire we established the level and state of anxiety with every individual. On the basis of the latter results, we chose 5 participants, namely those who displayed a higher level of anxiety. We taught them a relaxation technique- various breathing exercises with the view of diminishing the competitor's anxiety during a competition/match. After the performance of the breathing exercises lasting for 4 weeks, and numerous participations at different competitions, the participants responded to the questionnaire again. We compared the results before and after carrying out the breathing relaxation exercises. By means of the above described statistics and analysis of variation, we came to the conclusion that there is no major difference in the level and state of anxiety among team players and athletes of individual sports. The values therefore, do not indicate statistically relevant differences as the study did not show statistically relevant differences among team players and athletes of individual sports. The experiment proved that the use of relaxation techniques (breathing exercises) improves the state of pre-competitive anxiety.
