Abstract:Neposredne tuje investicije sodijo med najvišje oblike internacionalizacije. Prikazujemo odnos politike v državah Zahodnega Balkana do neposrednih tujih investicij in sporazume s Slovenijo o slovenskih neposrednih tujih investicijah v državah Zahodnega Balkana, prikazane so vse vhodne neposredne tuje investicije v državah Zahodnega Balkana, slovenski delež v le-teh ter podroben pregled slovenskih neposrednih tujih investicij v vsaki posamezni državi Zahodnega Balkana.

Title:SLOVENIAN FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN THE WESTERN BALKAN COUNTRIES
Abstract:Foreign direct investment is regarded as the highest form of internationalization. It has become a dominant form of business risks abroad. It differs from other forms of international capital flows, mainly in the fact that it is a strategic investment characterised by long run active involvement of an investor in a foreign country. The most important aim of foreign country investment is to preserve, extend and reach the foreign market. The companies meet many obstacles, such as lack of knowledge, information, staff and capital. For the country that receives the foreign direct investment besides obtaining the new capital other benefits are new employing opportunities, means of new technology transfers and governance, and opening of new commercial possibilities. There are also possibilities of negative influence for the recipient country. The foreign investors can take over the existing companies and in the tendency for increasing profit, they lower the number of employees, they tend to lower the labor costs. They can replace the domestic suppliers with foreign ones and they can transfer the profit abroad. The most welcoming type of foreign investment is the formation of a new company that causes positive effects for the recipient country. In the theoretical part of the thesis, some investment forms are shown, types of direct investment, possibilities of financial investment, a motive for foreign direct investment, possible effects on the recipient country and the attitude of the politics towards the foreign direct investment. The empirical part contains two chapters. The first one contains reasons and obstacles for Slovenian foreign direct investment, the attitude of Slovenian politics towards foreign direct investment (investment per recipient country, investment per activity, profit, loss etc.). The second chapter is dedicated to the Slovenian foreign direct investment in the countries of Western Balkan. It shows the political attitude in these countries and agreements with Slovenia as foreign direct investor. It shows all foreign direct investment in the countries of Western Balkan, Slovenian part in it and a detailed overview of Slovenian foreign direct investment in each country of Western Balkan.
Keywords:Foreign direct investment, Slovenia, Western Balkan, investment motives and incentives, inflow of investment, activities, types of investment
