Title:SLOVENIAN WOMEN'S RIGHTS MOVEMENT: FROM THE FIRST ASSOCIATION TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AFŽ
Abstract:The transition from the 19th century into the 20th century brought major changes to women's rights movement. The Slovenian movement did not have strong foundations; however, the extent to which women were exploited and oppressed soon led to activism. Subordination and unequal position of women in society became an inevitable part of everyday life and it was time to change. Women were driven by life situation : the two World Wars, poverty and unemployment. They began occupying positions previosly available only to men, but were still not considered equals. Such conditions encouraged women to become more active and made them aware of their lack of rights; they started establishing organizations and associations, publishing newspapers and books, women were leading schools, giving lectures and, above all, demanded equal status and acknowledgment in every aspect of their lives.
Keywords:women's right movement, Marxist theory, feminism, Women's Antifascist Front, Angela Vode, Franja Tavčar, discrimination, associations and organizations.
