Razprava in sklep. Rešitev vidimo v povečanju števila zaposlenih, morda doslednejši razmejitvi delovnih nalog, še več strokovnih izobraževanj in usposabljanj za člane negovalnega tima.

Title:CARE OF A NEWBORN WITH CRAMPS IN THE INTENSIVE THERAPY UNIT
Abstract:Cramps occur most commonly with prematurely born children thus it is essential that a doctor diagnoses the child's condition and starts an appropriate treatment as soon as possible, since it often prevents subsequent disorders in development. The nurse works with the doctor, reports about any changes of the child and has an essential role in the child's care, since she spends most of the time with the child and his parents. The purpose of this thesis was to describe the care of a new-born child with cramps in the intensive care unit and to present the role of a nurse. Research methodology. In the survey, a quantitative methodology was used, and as a research tool, we have used a partially structured questionnaire. Quantitative data were statistically analysed by a computer program Microsoft Excel, and illustrated in the form of frequency charts. Results. All (100 %) nurses work with new-born children with cramps using the method of "handling" and are aware how important this method is for the child. 22 (88 %) nurses haven’t got enough time for health-care work with parents, because of their preoccupation, while as many as 21 (84 %) nurses are aware that parents on their child's condition usually react with fear. Concerning the care of prematurely born children with cramps all (100 %) nurses define documenting and cooperation with the health team as an important role, as many as 24 (96 %) also define health-care work with parents as one of the key roles of a nurse. Discussion and conclusion. A prematurely born child is a little creature who, without adequate medical treatment has small chances of survival. Nurses are well prepared and trained for their work. Despite the lack of staff they are aware that only high-quality care contributes to improving the health of prematurely born children. The solution we see is an increase in the number of employees, perhaps more consistent demarcation of tasks, more vocational trainings and education for the nursing staff.
