Abstract:Smrt je skrivnostna neznanka nam vsem.

Title:TABOO TOPIC - CONVERSATION ABOUT DEATH WITH PRESCHOOL CHILDREN
Abstract:Death is a mystery to us all. We do not know what awaits us after death and we can not predict it. It seems it is not associated with us, until someone we love dies. But that is not the way it is. Everything that lives, must die. And even if we are not aware of that, the fact is, that death is with us on every step. The right thing is to see that and seize the moment to have a conversation about death with our preschool child. Interviewed parents od preschool children have stated that they talk about death with their children I learned that parents are able to take advantage of everyday opportunities and talk about death at the dead insects in the grass or other animals on the road. I think that by doing this, parents bring death as something natural to their children and because of that it is easier for them to talk about death with their children when a loved one dies. Most parents include their children in the rituals associated with the deceased. Most children have allready been at the cementery, the funeral and the memorial mass. Parenst do not remove their children from this and they allow them to grieve with the family. Together they visit the grave of the deceased and burn a candle or bring flowers. They talk about the deceased while watching photos and remember their beautiful moments spent togeter. Even if the pratents are not quite sure what happens after death it is the right thing that they are honest with their child. Children feel when we want to conceal something to them and by doing that they learn that it is right to conceal truth. However, when we openly talk to our child and we tell him that we are sad and that is why we cry, when we tell our child that it is fine if the child cries too, then our child will trust us and spoke openly about the deceased when the time comes.
