Abstract:Na osnovi virov in literature sem predstavil avstrijsko-turško vojno na področju Bosne 1737-1739 s posebnim poudarkom na banjaluški bitki 4.avgusta leta 1737.

Title:Austrian-Ottoman war in Bosnia 1737-1739: the Battle of Banja Luka on 4th August 1737
Abstract:On the basis of different sources and literature this bachelor thesis introduces the Austrian-Ottoman war in the area of todays’ Bosnia from 1737 to 1739, with a particular focus on the Battle of Banja Luka on 4th of August 1737. Those were the times when the Ottoman Empire was no longer considered a military superpower but was actually dealing with numerous military and internal affairs. As a neighbouring territory, the Bosnian eyalet found itself in great difficulties, which involved famine, plague, floods, refugee trespasses from other regions, invasions of bandits and living in constant fear of being attacked by the Austrians. People living in this utter devastation seemed to be well aware at the time that the eyalet was already lacking many soldiers, who were war casualties of the many battles with Persia, the defeat near Ozi (Ochakiv) was particularly disastrous. The vizier Ali Pasa Hekim Oglu was in charge of the eyalet and managed to defend this one of the most exposed areas with military perfection and capability. In 1737 Austrian soldiers attacked the Bosnian eyalet, with the war reaching its peak in the Battle of Banja Luka. The Bosniaks celebrated a glorious victory there against a much higher number of opponents, who were also supplied with much better military equipment. The impact of this victory was long felt among the people of the Ottoman Empire and abroad, in fact, it had a profound impact on the development of the war that was still ahead. Furthermore, the Bosniaks achieved such remarkable victory without any interventions from Istanbul, but mostly by their strong will to fight for their physical and spiritual well-being. The victory made Islam prevalent in this territory for another 150 years and succeeded in even raising the national consciousness of the Bosniaks.
