V Sloveniji smo ga izvajali vse do leta 1995, nato so ukinili njegovo uporabo. Teoretična izhodiša smo predstavili s pomočjo domače in tuje literature. Pri zbiranju podatkov smo upoštevali anonimnost anketirancev. V raziskavi je sodelovalo 16 ljudi, zaposlenih v Javnem zavodu Psihiatrične bolnišnice Vojnik. Anketiranci so že dlje časa zaposleni in so se v času svoje zaposlitve že srečali z elektrokonvulzivno terapijo.

Title:TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY
Abstract:Theoretical starting-point: Electroconvulsive therapy is a method of medical treatment that has been in use for over 50 years. We had been conducting it in Slovenia until 1995, when its usage had been terminated. Most people support the termination of its use but some, however, still think that it is the only effective way of treatment. In most of the states of the European Union, electroconvulsive therapy is still in use nowadays and it is considered to be one of the most effective ones. The technological advancement is extremely high and, therefore, cannot be compared to the ones made 15 years ago. Purpose: To present the technological innovations and use of electroconvulsive therapy in the present time. The purpose of this survey was to see, if people in Slovenia would be prepared for a reintroduction of electroconvulsive therapy and all the innovations that come with it. We were also interested if the medical staff in psychiatric hospitals would be willing to cooperate and learn how to perform electroconvulsive therapy. Methods: In the making of our college degree we used a descriptive method of work. We have presented the theoretical part with the help of domestic and foreign literature. While gathering data we considered the anonymity of our respondents. 16 people participated in the survey, all of them employed at the Psychiatric hospital Vojnik and all of them have met with electroconvulsive therapy before. In the way of our research, we have travelled to Budapest, Hungary, to see the electroconvulsive therapy actually performed live on 2 patients. Results and discussion: The data which we have obtained during the survey show us that the medical staff is prepared to cooperate and learn how to perform electroconvulsive therapy. It also shows that they are poorly educated on the matter because of the termination of electroconvulsive therapy in 1995. The survey shows that most of the respondents would recommend this therapy in the future, even to their own siblings. They also wish, that the negative sound of electroconvulsive therapy would diminish, whenever it is mentioned.
