Abstract:
This paper discusses an application of the stochastic linear optimization model (SLOM) to ferrosilicon production at a chemical factory in Slovenia. The stochastic linear optimization is based on factor analysis, multiple regression and linear programming. The stochastic explanatory variables in the linear objective function are replaced with a set of deterministic variables, namely the conditional means of the explanatory variables given the common factors. As the obtained objective function is deterministic, it can be optimized using the linear programming techniques. The modelling procedure is first explained on a case of the "Minesweeper" computer game.
