Abstract:Namen diplomskega dela je predstaviti avtorja Petra Svetino in predvsem njegovo prozo za otroke, opisati klasično in sodobno pravljico, kratko prozo (realistično, detektivsko, nonsensno in fantastično) ter predstaviti slikanico. Pri diplomskem delu sem uporabila pet različnih metod. V teoretičnem delu sem uporabila deskriptivno metodo, s katero sem predstavila različne teorije o sodobni pravljici, kratki prozi in slikanici.

Title:CHILDREN'S BOOKS BY PETER SVETINA
Abstract:The aim of the thesis is to provide an outline on writer Peter Svetina and his children’s books, and to describe traditional and contemporary fairy tales, short prose stories (realistic, detective, nonsense and fantasy) and picture books. Five methods have been used in drafting the thesis. A number of theories on contemporary fairy tales, short prose stories and picture books are presented by means of a descriptive method. The theoretical part is followed by an in-depth analysis of ten works of Svetina’s children’s prose, as follows: Lila mesto (1999, Lilac City), O mrožku, ki si ni hotel striči nohtov (1999, Little Walrus Reluctant to Cut his Nails) Skrivnost mlečne čokolade (2002, Milk Chocolate Mystery), Mrožek dobi očala (2003, Little Walrus Gets Glasses), Klobuk gospoda Konstantina (2007, Mr Konstantin’s Hat), Antonov cirkus (2008, Anton’s Circus), Ringaraja (2009, Little Fox’s Prank), Kako je Jaromir iskal srečo (2010, Jaromir’s Quest for Happiness), Modrost nilskih konjev (2010, Wisdom of Hippos), and Čudežni prstan (2011, Miraculous Ring). In adition to the analytical method, comparative and generalisation methods have been used to examine the characteristics of the children’s books analysed. A syntehis is provided in conclusion. The picture books by Peter Svetina involve a wide range of characters, especially animals that are attributed human characteristics so that children can easily identify with them. The stories take place in all seasons of the year, at different times of the day, and in rural as well as urban settings. Through a variety of themes and motifs in his picture books, the writer offers to children new experience or new situations, or depicts something children are familiar with from everyday life.
