Glavno kategorijo smo poimenovali »preddializna edukacija«, proučevali smo jo z vidika štirih podkategorij: odnos medicinska sestra - pacient, lastnosti medicinskih sester, celostna obravnava, priprava na preddializno edukacijo. Sklep: Medicinske sestre, ki obravnavajo paciente celostno potrebujejo poleg dobrega strokovnega znanja, potrebujejo še znanja iz drugih strokovnih področij.

Title:HOLISTIC PATIENT TREATMENT DURING THE PRE - DIALYSIS PERIOD
Abstract:Theoretical background: People are affected by chronic liver failure not only physically, but also psychologically and socially. The patient – nurse relationship is the precondition for a comprehensive patient treatment. A nurse has to recognize patient’s needs; offer them knowledge and information about the disease; help them to confront the disease; and prepare them for collaboration with the treatment. The purpose of this diploma paper is to present a comprehensive patient treatment in the predialysis period and establish if in the opinion of nurses such treatment is comprehensive also in the practice. Research method: In our research, we used the qualitative method. As the research instrument we used a partially-structured interview, which was carried out in three dialysis centers in Slovenia. On the basis of the qualitative research method we made a verbatim transcription of the interviews, determined the main code and the subcategories, based on which we analyzed the interviews. Results: We established that patients in the predialysis period are treated comprehensively in the opinion of the nurses. We named the main category ‘predialysis education’; we studied it from the perspective of four subcategories: nurse - patient relationship, nurse characteristics, comprehensive treatment, and preparation for predialysis education. Conclusion: Nurses which treat patients comprehensively need good expertise as well as knowledge from other professional fields. A nurse has a very important role in patient’s health education as the patient’s collaboration depends upon the quality of patient’s knowledge.
Keywords:comprehensive treatment, nurse – patient relationship, health education, chronic liver disease, multidisciplinary study.
