Abstract:	Informacijska varnost in z njo povezani mehanizmi zaščite imajo ključno vlogo tudi v našem vsakdanjem življenju. Z nesmotrnim ravnanjem pri uporabi informacijske tehnologije pa je kaj hitro lahko ogrožena naša zasebnost in varnost. Svetovni splet nam danes zaradi svojih številnih prednosti, kot sta anonimnost in enostavna uporaba, predstavlja virtualni prostor, znotraj katerega se odvijajo najrazličnejše aktivnosti, med njimi tudi vrsta kriminalnih dejanj, kamor sodijo vdori v informacijske sisteme, pošiljanje zlonamerne programske kode ter druge goljufije in potegavščine. Vsa ta dejanja, ki so lahko storjena naklepno ali iz malomarnosti, pa so za nas lahko življenjskega pomena. Kibernetski prostor v kombinaciji z neustavljivim napredkom tehnologije omogoča vedno nove oblike kriminalnih dejanj, ki jih je včasih nemogoče predvideti, storilce pa težko odkriti. Ta prostor pa nudi tudi idealne pogoje za izvajanje asimetričnih groženj, ki bi se jih morala zavedati vsaka družba in temu primerno sodelovati na mednarodni ravni. Zunanje grožnje, na katere smo se omejili v diplomskem delu, predstavljajo najpogostejšo obliko napadov na informacijsko varnost, ker pa nam te grožnje ne smejo postati ovira, je potrebno dati poudarek na osveščenost vsakega posameznika, preden vstopi v ta navidezni svet globalnih razsežnosti. Vedeti moramo, katere mehanizme zaščite imamo možnost uporabljati, da se lahko v določeni meri zaščitimo pred krutim, mračnim delom kibernetskega »podzemlja«. Zavedati se moramo, da kibernetska kriminaliteta postaja kriminaliteta prihodnosti, ki ne pozna nobenih fizičnih omejitev. Tudi najsodobnejša tehnologija dopušča varnostne vrzeli, ki jih s pridom izkoriščajo prevaranti sveta. Nujno potrebno je vlagati v kader, ki se zavzema za prijaznejši virtualni svet in si priznati, da smo še vedno ljudje najnevarnejša grožnja samim sebi.

Title:	MECHANISMS OF PROTECTION AGAINST INFORMATION SECURITY THREATS
Abstract:	Information security and the related protection mechanisms have a key role in our everyday lives as well. Furthermore, with careless behaviour in the use of the information technology our privacy and safety can quickly be put at risk. Nowadays the World Wide Web enables us, thanks to its numerous advantages such as anonymity and ease of use, to enter a virtual space where most varied activities take place and among them also a series of criminal offences, including hacking, sending abusive program codes, as well as other frauds and hoaxes. All such actions, which may be committed intentionally or out of negligence, can be of vital importance to us. The cyberspace, in combination with the incessant development of technology, enables new and new forms of criminal offences which are sometimes impossible to predict and their perpetrators hard to disclose. This space also offers ideal conditions for implementing asymmetric threats that every society should be aware of and cooperate accordingly on the international level. External threats, to which our examination was confined in the thesis, constitute the most frequent form of attacks on information security. As it cannot be permitted to these threats to become an obstacle, it is necessary to focus upon the awareness of individuals before their entering this virtual world of global proportions. We have to know what protection mechanisms are available for our use in order to protect ourselves to some extent against this cruel and dark part of the cyber »underground«. We should be aware that cyber crime is the criminality of the future and does not tolerate any physical limitations. Even the most advanced technology is open to security gaps and the rogues all over the world make the best of it. It is urgent to make investments in the staff committed to a friendlier virtual world and to admit that we, the human beings, are still the most dangerous threat to our own selves.
