Title:Conflicts in health care and the importance of supervision
Abstract:Conflicts occur everywhere, as well as nursing care or teams of health workers are not excluded. The causes of conflict may be different: congestion in the workplace, dissatisfaction among the staff or lack of knowledge of conflict and ways to tackle them. I believe that to resolve conflicts can greatly help the integration of supervision. Supervision is usually introduced when the current conflict resolution fails. With supervision, the conflicts are resolved in stages in the supervision process, in which cooperate supervisor and supervisees. Supervision process is based on successive meetings, where must be fulfilled some conditions. Supervision is unfortunately in health and nursing care rarely carried out; the cause is usually a lack of funding, as organizations are insufficiently aware of the long-term beneficial effects of supervision. In the thesis are presented conflicts and the most common causes for their formation. Purpose of this study is to identify which are the most common causes of conflict and to determine how many members of the nursing team are familiar supervision and its role in health care. The survey was based on a quantitative methodology using a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 50 members of the nursing team working in one of the homes for the elderly in Maribor. Data analysis showed that employees faced with a conflict in the workplace, but most people trying to learn lessons from the conflict. The most common causes of conflict in the workplace are inefficient communication and excessive work. The term supervision is known and half of the respondents have participated in the supervision process. Most expressed the need for inclusion of supervision in the nursing team. Many believe that the supervision may give them further motivation for the work.
