Abstract:V diplomski nalogi je bil proučen odnos javnosti do pridelovanja in uživanja gensko spremenjene hrane (GSH), predstavljen pojem genskega inženiringa, gensko spremenjenih organizmov (GSO) ter ugotovljene bistvene razlike v pogledih nanje s strani potrošnikov in kmetov. Opravljeni sta bili dve anketi med 504 potrošniki in 250 kmetovalci glede odnosa do GSO oz. GSH.

Title:The opinions of consumers and farmers about genetically modified food, feed and labeling of food of animal origin
Abstract:In this thesis the public attitude about producing and consuming genetically modified food (GMF) was studied, the concept of genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) were annotated and presented and essential differences in their views were done by consumers and farmers. Two opinion polls were carried out among 504 consumers and 250 farmers in terms of attitude towards GMOs or GMF. The survey results showed that the Slovenian public is generally familiar with the concept of GMOs or GMF, but it is not sufficiently informed. The majority opinion of the respondents is that the consumption of GMOs is not safe and that the food should have marks of their composition and method of production. Most of the surveyed farmers are alert of GMOs content in compound feeds for animals and the farmers are mostly opposed to the cultivation of GMOs. Four interviews were carried out. The first one was with the representative of the dairy Celeia, the second one with the representative of Pomurska’s dairy, in the third one the defender of the use of GMO gave his opinion, and in the last interview the opponent of the use of GMO was interviewed. A case study of marks of composition on products was carried out in the major shopping centres in Slovenia (Spar, Lidl, Hofer and Tuš), and in specialized shops for food for small animals (Ajka, Aki and Aro). The results of the case study show that food of recognized brands for small animals is mostly marked, but only a few foods for people are marked.
