Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava problem prenove kompleksa Cukrarne kot pomembnega kulturno zgodovinskega objekta. To načrtovanje predstavlja fazo pred začetkom gradnje novega upravnega središča MOL, narekuje ureditev in rabo kompleksa Cukrarne ter sledi zmagovalni rešitvi javnega arhitekturnega natečaja. Glavni referenčni primer revitalizacije zapuščenega industrijskega objekta predstavlja umetnostna galerija Tate Modern v Londonu z znamenito turbinsko dvorano (The Turbine Hall).

Title:REVITALIZATION OF THE CUKRARNA COMPLEX
Abstract:This study examines the issues of revitalization of the Cukrarna building situated in Ljubljana. The building has significant historical and cultural heritage. Originally it was built as a sugar factory and later in the twentieth century it served as a facility for homeless people. The building is currently unused, and the city of Ljubljana is considering several different architectural proposals for different parts of this dilapidated structure. The city is primarily interested in converting the structure into a building that will offer public space for community performances, exhibitions and other civic events. In this thesis I present interior design solutions that will meet the city’s future goals for the Cukrarna. First, I discuss the architectural history of the building, specifically focusing on the interior of the sugar factory. Then I examine three successful examples of converting old industrial complexes into a structures for alternative public use mainly dedicated for exhibition purposes. The main focus is on the Tate Modern art gallery in London as an excellent example of this transformation. Finally, I present my design ideas for a new multifunctional public space in the interior of the old sugar factory. Also I introduce the new idea of movable galleries that will enable various uses of the exhibition space.
